Time to answer all of your questions!

Hey guys, thank you all so much for all of the questions that came through from our Facebook page!

We got swamped with questions as you will see down below..

We are sorry it has taken us so long to post, but we have had a crazy couple of weeks, both started new jobs and in between battling miss 2.5, not much time to spare! but, nonetheless, here we go!

* Where do I get sperm?

You can refer to our previous blog post about helpful websites you can visit to find the right donor for you and your partner. The main one we recommend is coparents.com, where you can search and narrow down criteria you are searching for by location, age, interests, eye colour, hair colour etc.

* Where does my partner fit in legally?

The non biological mother in your little family will become listed as "parent" on your birth certificate (depending on your state). As long as you have a statutory declaration between your donor, birth mother and the non bio parent. This can be the same document you use when you sign a donor contract (which we highly recommend you get) or it can be something you sign all together that simply states the intentions of each party involved. Births, deaths and marriages will ask you for something like this when it comes time to apply for your bubba's birth certificate.

* What rights does the donor have to my baby?

This depends on your circumstances and what all parties have agreed to. If all parties are happy for the donor to be just that, then this is where you need a donor contract between all parties to state clearly the intentions if a baby should happen to be conceived through Artificial Insemination.

If you have all chosen for the donor to have visitation or to co-parent, then things will be different.

You must state everything you all intend to do after the baby is born in a donor contract.

* Do I need to have a donor contract?

It is not a legal document. But it will stand in court if things happen to go pear shaped (touch wood)

It is highly important and we highly recommend you do have one prior to insemination and any babies conceived. This way all parties are aware of their roles in this process and it will protect not only the intended parents from being made to give the donor time with your child when not intended in the first place, but also the donor against him being forced to pay child support (if only being a donor)

* Do we use a turkey baster?

No. as much as it seems like that's how lesbians have babies according to the movies, thats not how we do it. You will need to use oral syringes, that don't have needles (because ouch!) and none of the "stuff" will get stuck inside the said "turkey baster" You want as many of those little swimmers to be going toward the light as you can!

* How long after the donor makes the drop off in the jar do we have to use the good's?

A general rule of thumb is as soon as possible. Sperm has been tested to last out of body for up to 15 minutes (according to who you ask or where you google) but i'm sure you will both be excited and want to get it in there as quick as you can! Just don't squeeze it in too quickly, or it will become all over places you don't want it (believe me, I've been there!) refer to our how-to guide that comes in your kit for more information on this.

* Should I elevate my hips after inseminating?

This is one of those "can't hurt" situations. The little spermies know what they're there to do..

However, gravity can always help! Just make sure you puts your hips up, and not just your legs!

* How long should I test my ovulation cycle for?

Until you think you know your most fertile days. This depends if you are like clockwork with your periods, or if you're all over the place. If you are always on time, then try to test for two months and you will see a pattern form on the days when you get a positive reading. If you are not sure about your cycles or they come here and there and everywhere, test for three months or longer so you can start charting when you do get a positive and go from there.

Keep in mind sperm can live inside you for roughly five days, so you don't have to be exact, but it helps.

Generally, your most fertile days are in between your periods.

* How many times should we inseminate each month or each try?

As many as possible. This is another "can't hurt" situation. try to get at least two if not three samples away inside to help your chances. Keep in mind sperm can live inside you for roughly five days.

You also don't want your donor to be over-doing the samples, as the amount of sperm will reduce if he goes day after day for it. Try to get him to not have sex or play in any way for a few days prior so you have a fresh build up of swimmers.

* How much does the Home Insemination cost?

Our basic kit which includes 5 sterile cups, 5 oral sterile syringes, 30 ovulation tests, 2 pregnancy tests and and information guide on how-to is priced at $39.95 including free tracked shipping Australia wide.

We also have an express kit which includes 3 sterile cups, 3 syringes, 2 pregnancy tests and 3 ovulation tests plus free postage is priced at $29.95 and is designed for those women who know exactly when they are ovulating and can use this kit to conceive "express".

It is illegal in Victoria to pay any donor for his sperm. So effectively, home insemination doesn't cost you anything besides the supplies you will need.

* Can I be charged or made to buy the sperm sample?

If you are using a donor that you go to his house/he comes to your house, it is illegal to pay for his donation. However, you may pay him a fee that you agree on or think is fair to cover for his time/travel costs.

* Does your kit come with sperm?

No it doesn't. This is a very personal choice on who you decide to use as your donor, therefore we do not give out sperm. (not that it would last in the post anyway!) You will need to find your own donor.

* When should we inseminate?

On your most fertile days according to your tracked ovulation tests. There is information on tracking your cycle in our information guide or a simple google search can tell you the basic instructions.

You should try for at least two to three if not more inseminations per month on your most fertile days.

* Where should we inseminate?

Wherever you feel comfortable!! Wether this be in your own bed, in a hotel, at your donor's house, in your car (haha hopefully somewhere a little more intimate!)

There is no right or wrong answer.. just wherever you feel comfortable. You need to be relaxed to let the little swimmers do their best!

* Should I make my donor get a medical check?

Yes. Always. always make sure your donor is disease and std free before using his sample. You do not want any nasty surprises popping up and causing you to not be able to inseminate until they are gone.

This should be compulsory. You may also want to get him to have his sperm checked for motility if you are having trouble conceiving to see if his swimmers are active!

* What should i look for in a donor?

Anything you want your baby to have. You cannot be too picky with eye/hair colour etc but anything such as personality traits, interests, things that you both enjoy doing, basically anything! If he has a high interest in sports and fitness and you would rather stick to couch sports, he is probably not for you!

* Does it matter if my donor lives interstate?

Not at all. As long as you are willing to travel to him or vice versa.

* Where can i buy your kit from?

Facebook message us, Email us, Ebay us, use a contact form on our website, anyway!!

We are very friendly and very happy to discuss anything we may not have answered here today.

Thank you for submitting your questions and i hope i have answered them and given you all clarity on a few subjects.

Now, off to watch Trolls for the seventh time today with miss 2.5!!

Xx
